I have noticed that most "overzealous" CBP officials are found in smaller airports. Large airports like JFK, DC, Miami, SFO etc have efficient and effective CBP officials - they are really busy doing their jobs and don't have time to overdo their job.

A majority of CBP officers in airports are polite and thorough.

I'm ok with banning IP address. People can always go home and use IV, instead of wasting time at work.

My last post in the matter. By our perspective, what I meant was, if you see an article talking about common topics such American Compititiveness or Illegal immigration you can always send an e-mail to the reporter and talk about plight legal immigrants. In most cases you will see a response from the reporter, whether they publish it or not is generally a matter of who you represent and audicences to the cause and other issues . That's why I said if IV as an organisation sends an e-mail (it could be me or you but representing IV itself) there is a possiblity that you will be taken seriously. But repeating the same issue to the same reporter 100 times will not make it any important it might even have a deleterious effect. I have seen this method working in the past. If you disagree with my approach, let's agree to dissagree on our approaches.

--> Hear you totally sending one single message but what will you release for press and how often will you do it. If I am not mistaken, You are suggesting that we come up with a list of issues and do a press release and that should be fine. Well, Its a good idea and I am sure we had PR releases when there were events.

If you are saying that we should do a press release now instead of sending personalised emails, I guess its gotta be more with the $$ than being able to do it. Not all reporters, do leave an email and google might do the job. I have tried sending emails to such reporters and the response has been lukewarm over the past 2 months. Here is what one reporter has to say.

Well, youve got a hard sell now because everything is so centered on the elections, and the larger immigration story centers on the undocumented (who are far greater in number than high skilled immigrants, at least those seeking green cards.) A lot of media outlets also dont have immigration reporters per se. If I were you Id target business reporters. But make sure they havent already done something on this in the past year, because even though not everyone listens to or reads everything we do, we do tend to wait a while before repeating the same topic.

Mostly the problem is we all have tons and tons of possible stories and not enough time to do them all, so I can understand your frustation

Do you think that if 3 or 4 more of us has written to her, will she re consider it? may be or may not be. I dont think they have so much time to cause a detrimental effect. They dont want to write on it, it goes to /dev/null :)

    <---

If this is the case no matter how many e-mail we send it will not have any impact on him/her. That debate is almost like Conservative vs. Liberal debate and no amount of convincing can convince the other side.

I thought that was what we are doing. 25, 10, 1000 are all numbers, if 1000 is a spam why 25 isn't a spam. I think it is subjective.

--> Well, There is too much prediction on this forum than sending emails to people. Forget about email, I doubt if every member has sent the webfax. When you call it SPAM, Is it 100% unsolicited, undesired and one of those email that should have gone to the bulk folder but came to Inbox? I dont think so. But by doing copy/paste, we might be just telling that we are seeking attention. By writing in our words, may be we are expressing a concern. Public can always write to media and lawmakers. Circling back with the number 25, I dont consider it a spam if 25 people express a genuine problem in their own words

    <--

Anyway, I will contact a local reporter and see how it goes, but I will not send e-mail to this editor becasue there are already e-mails sent by others conveying the same thing.

-->I will be very happy if you can elicit a response easil y and will learn the tricks from you ;) Sure, You can refrain from sending an email to this editor as I clearly see that there have been ~ 10 or more emails.

// you are right on the money!!But i don't see any use for guys with PD>2006 coz anyway they would have to wait for more than 3 years to file their spouses bcoz of retrogression. y not wait for PD's to bcum current at a later date and apply together..GET IT!!! //

Only use applying for 485 now single is to be eligible to apply for EAD anytime. And if your spouse decides to study (F1) or work (H1), you can apply and get your EAD and use it. Once the PDs become Current, you can add her case (AOS) and her EAD too at that time.

If you think that your spouse would remain on H4 no matter what, then you are correct, there is no use filing 485 alone now.

    What say ???

Another key Republican calls for H-1B cap hike - Computerworld (http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9215970/Another_key_Republican_calls_for_H_1B_cap_hike)

I think there is a need to educate politicians that the problem is not H1B but GC backlogs. As per USCIS only 7100 H1B's have been utilized so far for FY 2012. Unless they provide clear and time bound path to Permanent Residence, positive economic contributions from high skilled immigrants would be minimal.

    Sai,

based on our earlier contact, sulekha was WAYY too expensive. if any of you guys know of some contacts there and can help us out, we can certainly pursue this again.
Indian media outlets don't care about community service :-)

What is your issue? All he said was that Rahman was better in other movies and how do you link that with terrorists? I guess you get cheap laughter by igniting some stupid issues like this. All we need is people like you to be the spokesperson for immigrationvoice.

Let me guess, you are a pakistani terrorist. Now you are jealous that how come an Indian muslim win 2 oscars? How will you give out your hateful message to other pakistanis terrorists that indian muslims are being torchured, so you have to "save" indian muslims. Too bad, no pakistani got an oscar. I know why, because the terror capital of the world is going down the drain pretty fast.

    Dear friends,

We are in immediate need of funds for that very purpose. We are seriously low on gas right now, for the journey ahead that we are only just starting on. We have only raised $30,000 in the last 50 days; even more alarming, fund raising has gone down drastically in the last 2 weeks. At our current burn rate, we will be out of money in a month or so, just when we expect the bills to come up for discussion on the Senate floors. As you can expect and appreciate, there is a cost for achieving anything politically. IV has already demonstrated a great deal of leadership and persistence to work on retrogression relief and labor backlog elimination. Many IV members will start making trips to DC in the coming weeks to meet lawmakers at the hill. We need your help NOW!

Members that have not yet contribute money, please do so TODAY! And members that have already contributed please consider another contribution. We need all hands on deck. Also pass on the message of the immediate need of funds to your friends.

If you have questions, as always, please send a note to info@immigrationvoice.org

This is my third post regarding this topic. I have made my contibution and urged all my friends to do the same. [B]Can we sell some add space[B]. If we can have more broad immigartion related topics like proceesing times, more people visit and we can probably sell some add space

I agree .. again :) .. that companies may not be too excited about the employees taking off for a few hours.

    Can't we have something potent:
Say we have a page on IV that lists all the members with names, GC applied on, wait time to date, company working for. Accompanied by any info that makes this look authentic like SRC number .. or something (need not be displayed, but can be in database).

We could then get some graphs and statistics based on these figures and pass it on to lawmakers, other people who need to be influenced.
This way we have all teh facts .. rather than arbitrary data like:
"Today the system takes anywhere between 6-12 years to grant Green cards to some of the best and brightest of the world who have chosen America as their future home."

    Dude, i dunno about this...

But this guy was correct for the last month about the retrogression about EB3-ROW....

    BR

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. I just think its a waste of time 'predicting'

Anyways, don't you think we should behave a little better in public forums? (I'm referring to the language in your post)

    Good analysis.

Additions: from all current categories - may be 25 K in 2 years?

This is the key stat here. It all depends on how many apps that are in the current category now get filed in the next few years. If there are no more new EB applicants, we should see all pending apps to get approved in a year or two max. The 4 current categories now are EB1 ROW, EB1 India/China and EB2 ROW. If there are 140K apps coming in every year from these categories, we'll never see any movement for EB2/EB3. Anybody know the average number of applicants the last few years from these categories? From the recent news, we know that demand for EB1 India and EB1 China has grown substantially. In my opinion, setting a cutoff date for EB1 India/China would be the best thing for USCIS to do now. That will prevent any new visa usage for EB1 India/China and allow EB2 and EB3 categories to catch up.

If they get continus apps from Eb1 in each quater how can they set up cutoff date ? ( I mean their demand with in range of supply ) .. isn't that illegal ?

USCIS procedures suggest that for preadjudicated cases, they assign visas in order of PD, which should be the case now as focus appears to be on preadjudication. However, if there are no preadjudicated cases, as seemingly was the case last year, they have no way to do it in PD sequence. In that case, they pick files case by case in sequence of receive date (not the RD on your receipt, but the date when someone entered case data, which is close to ND) which works better for USCIS (but not for us) with wide open cut off dates.

What makes people think that USCIS has preadjudicated cases in the order of priority date. If they have preadjudicated cases from 2005,2006 and left the cases from 2003 -2004 then it is the same mess an d i can bet that knowing USCIS chance of this are very very high so even if your date gets current it is still luck whether you get GC ornot.

Interesting experiment, and I can see that is how human beings respond sometimes.

However we are guaranteed something in return when we TRY to do what we believe in, regardless of the odds as we see them: the satisfaction of DOING something about it, and a real shot at getting what we want.

Easy to try it. Pick anything, literally anything about your life you want to change (from changing your job to losing weight to calling up your parents more frequently).

Then WITHOUT THE FEAR OF FAILURE, do something about it. It will either work out, which will be terrific. Or it won't... maybe you don't success at that job interview after all, or you still put on weight. Even then, the satisfaction that comes from having TRIED is yours to keep! (Personally, I have found this to be more motivating for trying those things again, as opposed to the hopelessness that results from not trying and then seeing things not improve.) And of course, since failure is only one of two possibilities that there can be, you do succeed 50% of the times that you try honestly!

In case of IV's efforts including the upcoming Advocacy Day, that is exactly how I feel.

Freakonomics and IV participation by EB3IFreakonomics

The guys from Freakonomics did an experiment in a Chicago school. They said they will give $50 to all students who will get a B or higher in all their subjects. After some time they have found out that students who were getting a grade in the vicinity of B earlier have improved their grades to B level. But the students who were already well below B, actually went down in the grading; from D to E for example. You can google for the details.

In the GC saga, what we need is a B grade or above.
EB3 Mexico already has a C grade, hence he tries hard to improve himself to a B grade.
EB3I is in D grade. We more or less feel that trying hard is a waste of our time. If we try hard, we might get a C grade (means EB2I folks will get GCs :( :( ). The end result is that we go from D to E. That is what you are really seeing.

PS: despite the above generalization, I am planning to participate in the advocacy days in DC and I have already contributed to the efforts. Because human beings defy logic and what is natural to other life forms on earth.
